The US Department of Justice has sued Uber, accusing the company of discriminating against people with disabilities in violation of federal law. The department's Civil Rights Division filed a lawsuit on Thursday in a federal court in Northern California, alleging that Uber drivers frequently refuse to provide accommodations for passengers with service animals or collapsible wheelchairs. Uber has faced multiple lawsuits from passengers accusing the company of violating the Americans with Disabilities Act. In 2021, Uber reached a settlement with the US Department of Justice agreeing to pay over $2 million to tens of thousands of passengers and adjust its policies after being accused of charging discriminatory fees for disabilities.
