Economic Daily: Trade disputes between Europe and America may escalate into a tug of war.

On May 8, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the list of products to be subject to retaliatory tariffs against the United States. At the same time, in response to the US' so-called "equivalent tariffs" and its tariff policy on whole cars and parts, the EU will file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization. The EU news announcement shows that this consultation will be open until June 10 and will involve products worth 95 billion euros imported from the US, mainly covering industrial and agricultural sectors. The EU-US tariff dispute has long surpassed the scope of traditional trade wars, with the US attempting to reconstruct a "America First" trade network with unilateral tariffs, while the EU relies on a multilateral framework to build a "Rule Alliance." The possibility of a tug-of-war in the EU-US trade dispute continues to increase. In the future, it is likely that scenarios such as "the EU gradually imposing tariffs, the US making partial concessions to extend negotiations, but the core differences remaining unresolved" will repeatedly occur.
