Insider: U.S. and South Korea to establish a working group to improve the visa system for South Korean workers.
According to South Korean diplomatic sources, more than 300 South Koreans were detained and released in recent U.S. immigration raids. South Korea and the United States will establish a working group this week to improve the visa system for South Korean workers. The sources said that weeks after the raid on South Korean workers in Georgia, the two countries will hold the first meeting of the working group in Washington on Tuesday local time. In early September, over 300 South Korean workers at a factory construction site in Georgia were detained for a week for violating visa regulations for unknown reasons. After diplomatic negotiations, they were released. The sources said that the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. State Department will lead the working group, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Department of Commerce are also expected to participate.
