The scale of the Shanghai metaverse related industries has exceeded 300 billion yuan.

At the 2025 Metaverse Development Forum, Ge Dongbo, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology, stated that the scale of the city's core metaverse industry and related industries has exceeded 300 billion yuan, with more than 30 XR terminal manufacturing companies gathered and the production capacity of core components such as optical modules and spatial computing chips accounting for over 40% of the national total. The next steps will focus on three aspects: first, conducting technological research and application pilots around physical AI, spatial computing, digital humans, and 3D digital content, establishing industry service platforms, organizing industry standardization work, and promoting the transformation of metaverse achievements; second, deepening exploration of product applications, promoting the large-scale application of metaverse benchmark scenarios in industrial, medical, educational, cultural tourism, and transportation fields; third, building a healthy industrial ecosystem, strengthening policy support, utilizing various municipal special funds effectively, enhancing the construction of talent teams, and nurturing a group of metaverse private enterprises with international competitiveness.
