On September 27th, the second International Conference on Excellent Engineer Training was held in Beijing. Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng attended the conference and delivered a speech. Huai Jinpeng stated that the Chinese government attaches great importance to innovation in engineering science and technology and the development of engineering education. In recent years, China has continuously increased investment in higher education, especially in engineering education. China has built the largest and highest-quality higher engineering education system in the world, with over 9 million students. China has explored a new path of integrating science and education, industry and education to cultivate excellent engineers, which has effectively supported the economic and social development of the country and region. It has also provided valuable references for the reform and development of international engineering education, sharing China's concepts, practices, and methods in engineering education with the world. Huai Jinpeng pointed out that in today's world, with the deepening of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, global engineering science and technology innovation has entered an unprecedented period of intense activity, with breakthroughs in key technology clusters in various fields. New technologies and new formats, especially those represented by artificial intelligence and life sciences, are constantly evolving. Engineering education is facing many new opportunities and challenges, requiring us to study and think about the reform and innovation of engineering education in a developmental manner. China is willing to work together with countries around the world to promote comprehensive, broad-ranging, and multi-level exchanges and cooperation in engineering education, jointly address the common challenges faced by humanity, continuously improve the quality of engineering education and the effectiveness of talent cultivation, and provide effective references for the reform and development of international engineering education. Huai Jinpeng proposed three initiatives to deepen cooperation and promote the construction of a new international ecosystem for engineering education: first, to jointly create international engineering education quality standards that lead to excellence; second, to jointly explore new paths for international engineering education reform in the era of intelligence; and third, to jointly build an open and inclusive international engineering education cooperation network. At the conference, the China Association for Science and Technology, the China Engineering Education Accreditation Association, and the International Engineering Alliance signed a joint declaration, initiating cooperation to establish an international mutual recognition agreement for graduate-level engineering education. This work proposed by China will fill a key gap in the global international mutual recognition system for high-level engineering talents, establish a unified global master's and doctoral training quality benchmark, and provide high-level, international talent support to address artificial intelligence, climate change, and sustainable development. Beihang University, Beijing Jiaotong University, Central South University, South China University of Technology, Tongji University, and Chongqing University signed agreements with Valencia Polytechnic University in Spain, State University of Ponta Grossa in Brazil, Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia, National University of San Marcos in Peru, University of Nairobi in Kenya, and National University of Laos to carry out close cooperation in the training of excellent engineers.
