According to a letter from Democratic Senator Dick Durbin and Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, they are requesting ten major companies to explain why they recently laid off American employees after submitting thousands of H-1B visa applications for foreign workers. The companies that received the senators' letter include: Amazon, Apple, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Deloitte, Google, JPMorgan Chase, Meta, Microsoft, Tata Consultancy Services, and Walmart. In a letter to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, they wrote "In the past few years, hundreds of thousands of American tech workers have been laid off, why is Google still hiring foreign tech workers?" The letter requires these companies to respond no later than October 10th.
