On the morning of September 24th, the Taiwan Affairs Office held a routine press conference. A reporter asked about US Senator Cruz's letter to US Secretary of State Pompeo and Transportation Secretary Chao, expressing hope for Taiwan to join the International Civil Aviation Organization. Taiwan's DPP authorities thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lin Chia-lung, and stated that "Mainland China obstructing Taiwan's participation in the International Civil Aviation Organization has potentially posed risks to global aviation safety." What are your comments on this? Spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, Chen Binhua: Our stance on the issue of Taiwan's participation in international organizations, including the International Civil Aviation Organization, has always been consistent and clear, that it must be handled in accordance with the One-China principle. Taiwan, as part of China, has no right to join the International Civil Aviation Organization. The DPP authorities colluding with external forces to fabricate various reasons for participating in activities such as the International Civil Aviation Organization conference are actually aiming to challenge the international community's adherence to the One-China principle. Their political tricks and provocations will be resolutely defeated. We have always paid attention to the needs of Taiwan compatriots in the civil aviation field, and the channels through which Taiwan can access International Civil Aviation Organization standards, recommended practices, and related information are open. Taiwan has easy access to many cities around the world by air. The fact is that Taiwan's aviation safety and air links with other regions have nothing to do with whether the DPP authorities participate in International Civil Aviation Organization activities.
