Argentine President Mauricio Macri revealed that Argentina is striving to curb market sell-offs and avoid a debt crisis through negotiations, and then announced plans to meet with U.S. President Trump in New York on Tuesday. The Argentine Presidency said in a statement that the meeting with the U.S. President will reflect the "strong bilateral relationship" between the two countries and their shared commitment to deepening strategic ties. The White House has not yet responded to requests for comments. Argentina is working to ensure it can repay around $9.5 billion in debt due next year on schedule and prevent the peso from depreciating. The country has injected $1.1 billion into the foreign exchange market in the past three days to prevent a peso devaluation - a devaluation that could disrupt the President's economic stability plan.
