Xinjiang's Heishui County was rumored to have experienced a 4.6 magnitude earthquake causing houses to collapse, but the official statement has debunked the claim.
According to the official measurement of the China Earthquake Network, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake occurred in Hetian County, Bazhou, Xinjiang at 2:03 am on May 20, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The epicenter was located at 41.74 degrees north latitude and 88.22 degrees east longitude. According to the emergency management department, there are no towns within 50 kilometers of the epicenter, nearby towns felt slight shaking, with no casualties or property damage. However, some self-media accounts have fabricated and spliced rubble images that do not correspond to this earthquake in order to attract traffic, confuse and mislead internet users, causing negative social impact.
