Zhao Chengfeng, head of the Fixed Asset Investment Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated at a news conference that the next step for the Commission will be to steadily and orderly promote the implementation of key urban renewal projects. Following the principles of "overall planning, highlighting key points," "urgent priorities followed by gradual implementation," and "government guidance, market operation," priority will be given to projects involving the improvement of urban underground pipeline safety, the transformation of old residential areas into livable spaces, the comprehensive renovation of urban villages, and the safety improvement of municipal facilities that are related to public safety and livelihood security. Projects related to upgrading old neighborhoods and enhancing the functionality of urban public spaces will also be gradually promoted in accordance with local conditions. The Commission will guide city governments in scientifically and reasonably planning specific urban renewal projects.
