China Meteorological Administration issued a blue alert for severe convective weather at 06:00 on May 16th.

It is expected that from 08:00 on May 16 to 08:00 on May 17, some areas in central Inner Mongolia, northern Shanxi, central-northern Hebei, Beijing, Tianjin, and southern-central Liaoning will experience thunderstorms with severe gale force winds or hail reaching level 8-10, with localized areas experiencing level 11 thunderstorm winds or large hail. Parts of northern and central North China, southern parts of Northeast China, central-eastern Jiangnan, southeastern parts of Southwest China, and South China will experience short-duration heavy rainfall exceeding 20 millimeters, with some areas in southern Hunan, northeastern Jiangxi, northwestern Fujian, central-southern Guizhou, northwestern Guangxi, and northwestern Guangdong expecting rainfall exceeding 50 millimeters. It is expected that the main impact of severe convective weather will be from this afternoon to the early night.
