Analysis: The Euro is unlikely to replace the US Dollar as the world's reserve currency.
Monex Europe analyst Nick Rees said that in the coming years, the importance of the euro as a reserve currency may increase, but it is likely to remain the second best choice after the US dollar. He stated that the comical actions of Trump have weakened the attractiveness of the dollar, but any shift towards the euro would be insignificant. This does not mean the end of the dollar as the world's main reserve currency. The US economy is larger than the Eurozone and more integrated, and the European government bond market is far from being a perfect substitute for US Treasuries. Compared to the US government, the EU is "more abnormal as an administrative body, institutionally speaking." Additionally, the division within the Eurozone remains an occasionally contentious topic.
