The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a global toilet paper supply chain paralysis which is still vivid in memory. Now, President Trump's tariff measures are once again threatening supply stability. This is the view of Suzano SA, the world's largest pulp exporter. Pulp is the raw material for products like toilet paper. The CEO of the company said in an interview that export tariffs have led to a decrease in Brazil's pulp exports to the US. The company, based in Sao Paulo, is currently passing on the tariff costs to American buyers. Although it is still uncertain how much of an impact the tariffs will have on the paper supply chain, the effects on the pulp industry are just the latest example of trade disputes threatening the normal supply of essential goods worldwide. Brazilian government data shows that in April, Brazil's exports of bleached hardwood pulp to the US decreased by 20% compared to the same period last year.
