On May 8th, Yueyang County in Hunan Province experienced severe thunderstorms and strong convective weather, with some areas receiving over 100mm of rainfall and wind speeds exceeding 12 levels. This severe weather event caused the collapse of 5 houses, severe damage to 23 houses, and minor damage to over 180 houses. There were 16 areas of urban waterlogging, and preliminary statistics showed approximately 577 hectares of crops were affected. Some areas in the city, industrial parks, Xinqiang Town, Gontian Town, and Zhangguying Town experienced power outages. Some communication, transportation, and water facilities were also damaged, but there were no casualties reported. Currently, the local rainfall has stopped. Following the disaster, Yueyang County immediately dispatched multiple work teams totaling around 800 people to the scene for disaster relief efforts. As of 3 pm on the 8th, 745 people have been evacuated, and all 16 waterlogged areas have returned to normal. Communication and transportation facilities have also largely returned to normal.
