The European Commission warned Romania on Wednesday to cancel the cap on natural gas prices or face legal action. The EU's executive arm said this policy violates the bloc's energy market rules. Since November 2021, Romanian households, small businesses, and public institutions have had their natural gas and electricity bills capped at certain monthly consumption levels, with suppliers compensating for the difference. In a notice issued on Wednesday, the European Commission stated that this policy breaches EU rules on the free formation of wholesale natural gas prices, as Romania's measures require companies to sell some products at a fixed wholesale price.
