Portugal's unemployment rate in the first quarter decreased slightly to 6.6%.

On Wednesday, the National Statistics Institute of Portugal announced that despite a contraction in the economy, the unemployment rate in Portugal for the first quarter decreased slightly from 6.7% in the previous three months and 6.8% in the same period last year to 6.6%. The youth unemployment rate also dropped from 21.8% in the previous quarter to 21.2%, which is lower than the 23.0% from the same period last year. The total number of unemployed people decreased by 0.7% from the previous three months to 365,800 people, while the total labor force increased by 0.5% to 5.55 million people.
