According to The Wall Street Journal, the Trump administration has proposed investing $5 billion in a new fund aimed at helping Middle Eastern countries rebuild energy infrastructure damaged in the war with Iran and reducing their dependence on the Strait of Hormuz for oil and gas transportation. Under the Trump administration's plan, the United States would seek equal contributions from partnersSaudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, and Jordanto raise a $10 billion investment fund. The investment plan would be named the "Partnership for Allied Trust and Construction" (abbreviated as Pact). Related negotiations are currently underway. Some Middle Eastern officials said the move appears to be an attempt by the United States to position the Strait of Hormuz as a less influential energy corridor and to demonstrate that the U.S. and its allies are united in confronting Iran. According to The New York Times, SB Energy, the data center construction and operation company under SoftBank, had originally planned to conduct an initial public offering (IPO) this month. The company intends to build the world's largest data center project in Ohio. However, according to four people familiar with the marketing of the deal, the offering has been postponed because investors have questioned the $50 billion or higher valuation sought by SB Energy.
