Former Tencent Hunyuan pretraining lead Yao Xingcheng joins Thinking Machines Lab

Yao Xingcheng, the head of pre-training for Tencent's Hunyuan large language model, has recently joined the North American startup Thinking Machines Lab. According to people familiar with the matter, the salary Thinking Machines Lab offered Yao Xingcheng this time is significantly higher than his income at Tencent. Yao Xingcheng's annual compensation package at Tencent was roughly in the range of tens of millions of RMB. Previously, Yao Xingcheng was rumored to be joining Meta. Now the other shoe has dropped, and he has ultimately chosen this AI company founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati.
