Starting from November 2, gun owners in the state can surrender qualifying rifles, shotguns, and handguns, with a compensation of up to 1,000 AUD. The policy change arises from the shooting that occurred in December last year during a Jewish festival event near Bondi Beach, which resulted in 15 fatalities. New South Wales, Australias most populous state, will share the costs of the program with the federal government.
