French Foreign Minister opposes US interference in European affairs

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian posted on social media on the 16th, expressing his opposition to a tender project released by the US State Department aimed at interfering in European affairs. Le Drian wrote: "Let's be clear: France and Europe will never tolerate any attempt by a foreign country to interfere in their electoral processes, no matter where this attempt comes from." Le Drian attached to his post a tender project document titled "Developing ties in Europe for Civilization, Democratic Resilience and Rule of Law" recently released by the US State Department's Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. The document states that its purpose is to solicit proposals to "strengthen and develop democratic resilience, rule of law, freedom of speech and press, and human rights protection in Europe" through research, conferences, cultural activities, etc.
