CATL Signs Agreement to Deploy Sodium-Ion Battery Energy Storage Systems in Europe
CATL has signed an agreement to supply its newly launched sodium-ion energy storage system to Europe, as part of the company's strategy to advance both lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery technologies. According to a statement from the company, under a memorandum of understanding signed with Dutch energy solutions provider Alfen N.V., CATL will deploy 5GWh of its sodium-ion energy storage systems in Western European countries, including the Netherlands, starting in 2027. The company stated that this collaboration marks the first large-scale deployment of the Huayi sodium-ion energy storage system in the European market. With this opportunity for cooperation, CATL will accumulate localized experience in the application of sodium-ion batteries in the European grid. The system, launched by CATL in late June, uses sodium instead of lithium as the main raw material.
