The President of the European Central Bank, Lagarde, hints at the possibility of stepping down early to intervene in the debate of the French presidential election.
European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde recently stated in an interview with the media that she does not rule out the possibility of stepping down before the end of her term in 2027 in order to intervene in domestic political debates in France before the 2027 presidential elections. When asked if she completely ruled out the possibility of resigning early to participate in French political debates, Lagarde admitted that "this is possible" and emphasized the need to hear voices from Europe in the French presidential debates. Despite indicating the possibility of resigning early for political reasons, Lagarde seems to rule out the prospect of personally running for the next French presidency. She explicitly stated that running for office herself is "not on the agenda." Discussing her potential role in future elections, Lagarde noted that she will represent the "voices of France and Europe" and warned that France must play a decisive role in the economic future of the European continent; without the support and environment of Europe, France's economic prospects will become at least uncertain.
