Goldman Sachs estimates that the World Cup may add 40,000 jobs to the June employment report in the United States.
Goldman Sachs said that due to the World Cup boost, the June non-farm payroll data to be released on Thursday may exceed market expectations. According to a survey consensus of economists interviewed by Dow Jones, non-farm payroll is expected to increase by 115,000, a slowdown from the strong growth of 172,000 in May. However, Goldman Sachs stated that private data from small business payroll service company Homebase shows that "beautiful football" has had a mild impact on hiring, contributing approximately 40,000 jobs last month.
