SpaceX (SPCX.US) is in close talks with Charter (CHTR.US) to collaborate on mobile phone services, as the satellite giant speeds up its entry into the consumer-level communication market.

According to the financial news app Smart Finance, informed sources revealed that SpaceX and the largest home internet service provider in the United States, Charter Communications Inc., have held high-level discussions, with both parties exploring collaboration in consumer mobile phone services. Under the proposed plan, Charter may use its ground internet infrastructure to carry some of SpaceX's mobile communication traffic, similar to its existing Spectrum Mobile service. If finalized, this collaboration will help SpaceX take a key step towards its goal of becoming a direct-to-consumer mobile phone provider.
