In recent years, China's automobile exports have grown rapidly, leading to a continuous increase in the demand for car transport ships. These high-end ships have higher requirements for steel accuracy, requiring the use of ultra-thin plates to strictly control the ship's center of gravity and ensure stable navigation. The head of a steel company in Nanjing told reporters that the total ship steel production this year, including crack-resistant steel, wide thin plates for cruise ships, high-strength ship plates, and polar low-temperature ship plates, is expected to exceed 2 million tons, with long-term orders scheduled until 2028. The strong downstream demand has driven up the prices of high-end steel, with the average price of ship plates rising from around 4100 yuan per ton to around 4300 yuan. To avoid fluctuations in raw material prices, shipbuilding companies are adopting fixed price models. Despite the high consumption and high added value of high-end steel, the profit margin remains considerable. Experts have told reporters that in recent years, Chinese steel companies have developed a variety of steel for different purposes, with the quality indicators such as stability, uniformity, and thickness tolerance reaching international advanced levels, helping to drive the transformation and upgrading of China's shipbuilding equipment industry.
