The Minister of Health of the Congo, Kamba, said in the capital Kinshasa on the 4th that the country's response to the Ebola epidemic is accelerating, and now test samples can provide results within 24 hours. Currently, the detection capacity in the Congo is "almost 100%". Kamba said at a press conference held that day that the current Ebola epidemic in Bindi Kikuji Province in the Congo has accumulated a total of 381 confirmed cases, with 63 deaths. Currently, there are about 233 patients hospitalized, including suspected patients awaiting test results in isolation and patients receiving treatment after confirmation. Kamba stated that the epidemic is currently limited to the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu in eastern Congo, and no Ebola cases have been reported in other areas. Currently, there is no approved vaccine for the Bindi Kikuji type Ebola virus, and related candidate vaccines are still under research. Kamba said that the absence of a vaccine does not mean that patients cannot recover, timely supportive treatment from medical institutions can reduce the risk of death. Currently, seven patients in the Congo have recovered. Recovery refers to patients no longer exhibiting symptoms, and two consecutive tests with negative results two days apart. In addition, the Ministry of Health of Uganda stated on the 4th that the country has added 1 new confirmed case of Ebola, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 16. The Regional Director for Africa of the World Health Organization, Moeti, said at an online press conference on the 4th that this round of epidemic shows that regional cooperation is not an option, but a necessary condition. The WHO representative in the Congo, Anne Asiyo, stated that the response to this epidemic is still in its early stages, and it is too early to make an accurate prediction about the trend of the epidemic.
