A criminal case has been opened regarding this attempted terrorist attack. The report stated that the Russian Federal Security Service said in a statement on the 25th, "The relevant authorities have thwarted a terrorist attack plot against a liquefied natural gas transport ship. The ship departed from the port of Antwerp in Belgium, arrived at the port of Ust-Luga in Leningrad Oblast to load cargo, and then sailed to the port of Samsun in Turkey. The Russian Federal Security Service stated that during an inspection of the underwater part of the ship, "Several magnetic objects with characteristics of explosive devices were found in the engine room area". The spokesperson for the Russian Federal Investigative Committee, Peterenko, stated that these devices were "magnetic naval mines manufactured by a certain NATO country".
