On February 23, 2026, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council via video in Beijing, and delivered a speech titled "Promoting the Implementation of Global Governance Initiatives to Improve Global Human Rights Governance". Wang Yi stated that the current international situation is complex, and the post-World War II international order and global human rights governance face new challenges. China is willing to work with countries to implement global governance initiatives, improve global human rights governance, and promote the healthy development of international human rights cause. It is necessary to adhere to sovereignty equality, safeguard the original intention of global human rights governance, abide by international rule of law, strengthen the foundation of global human rights governance, practice multilateralism to address global human rights governance challenges, advocate for human-centered approach, enrich the content of global human rights governance, and focus on action orientation to enhance the effectiveness of global human rights governance. Wang Yi emphasized that 2026 is the first year of China's "15th Five-Year Plan", and China will continuously develop the process of people's democracy, ensuring that the achievements of China's modernization benefit all its people in a fair and equitable manner. China is willing to work with countries to promote common development and prosperity, defend international fairness and justice, promote common values of all humanity, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind, so that the development and progress of human rights civilization will benefit the entire world.
