Saudi Arabia condemns US ambassador to Israel's "irresponsible" remarks
According to CCTV News, the Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the 21st strongly condemning recent remarks by the US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Herkelby, claiming that Israel has the right to control the entire Middle East region. The statement said that Saudi Arabia firmly opposes "this irresponsible remark", which violates international law, the UN Charter, and diplomatic norms. Herkelby's "statements as a US official are a dangerous precedent and a disregard for the special relationship between the countries in the region and the United States." The statement pointed out that such extreme remarks portend serious consequences, threaten international peace and security by antagonizing countries and people in the region, and weakening the foundation of the international order. "The US State Department should clarify its position on this remark." The statement also said that Saudi Arabia opposes any actions that harm national sovereignty, borders, and territorial integrity, and emphasized that the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East is to end the occupation on the basis of the "two-state solution" and establish an independent Palestinian state with the 1967 borders as its basis and East Jerusalem as its capital. Herkelby recently claimed in an interview with an American journalist, "If Israel takes over the entire Middle East, that would be fine."
