Wei Lei served twice at the British Embassy in China in the 1990s and 2000s. After 15 years, he returned to China as an ambassador and felt the biggest change was the completely different technological environment. He said, "On my first weekend here, I tried to withdraw cash from an ATM only to find out that no one accepts cash anymore. I had to give the cash to someone willing to help on the street, so they could call a taxi for me. This is a huge change." Wei Lei, the British Ambassador to China, also stated that with the wave of Chinese companies going global, the UK can not only be a trading partner, but also serve as a "super platform" for Chinese companies to enter the global market. By providing high-quality legal and financial services, the UK can help Chinese companies expand globally.
