The US and China are close to finalizing a major Boeing aircraft purchase that could anchor a broader trade agreement, while related disputes over soybeans, TikTok, and tariffs continue to shape negotiations.

The United States and China are reportedly nearing the conclusion of talks over a significant Boeing aircraft purchase, with the deal expected to be a central feature of a broader trade arrangement. U.S. Ambassador to China David Perdue acknowledged the ongoing discussions but did not disclose the potential size of the agreement.

“This is a major order, and it holds great importance for the president, for Boeing, and for China,” Perdue said on Tuesday. Boeing has long been working to secure the sale of up to 500 planes to Chinese buyers, with negotiations stretching back several years.

Meanwhile, Reuters reported that China recently purchased at least 10 shipments of soybeans from Argentina, further pressuring U.S. farmers who have been struggling with weak prices and restricted access to their top export market.

On the political front, President Trump confirmed after a phone call with President Xi Jinping that an arrangement had been reached regarding the U.S. operations of TikTok. Both leaders also agreed to hold a series of bilateral meetings in the coming months, starting with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea scheduled for October 30 to November 1. Trump added that Xi is expected to make a visit to the U.S. “at an appropriate time.”

In the background, the U.S. Supreme Court is weighing a crucial case on the legality of Trump’s tariffs. A ruling could arrive as early as this fall. The tariffs in question are the broad, country-specific duties Trump introduced earlier in the year, ranging from 10% to 50%. These measures were imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977, with the appeals court permitting the tariffs to remain in effect while the case proceeds.
