The real breakthrough lies in the improved App Intents system, which will allow Siri to fully control third-party and Apple applications solely through voice commands.
Apple Inc. (AAPL.US) delayed the key upgrade of Siri this year, sparking public attention on the company falling behind in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) development and leading to internal calls for reform. However, the most significant setback is not the anticipated feature of Siri that would allow it to extract personal data from messages, emails, and photos to perform complex tasks. Insiders revealed that the real breakthrough lies in the improved App Intents system, which will enable Siri to fully control third-party and Apple Inc. applications solely through voice commands. In theory, users will be able to locate, edit, and send photos, post comments on social media, make online purchases, or log into various services without touching the screen. If successful, this would realize Apple Inc.'s vision of "hands-free operation" proclaimed when Siri was first launched nearly 15 years ago, and lay the foundation for future hardware products, including the planned smart display screen and even the Siasun Robot & Automation desktop. Due to the delay in the development of the App Intents feature, the release of this smart display screen has been postponed by a year. Apple Inc.'s global data operations team is currently prioritizing testing and planning to launch in the spring, while also performing broader upgrades to the Siri infrastructure. Early testing is limited to some applications such as Uber Technologies, Inc. (UBER.US), Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN.US), YouTube, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Apple Inc.'s own software, with sensitive categories like banking and healthcare subject to stricter restrictions or even completely excluded. The key is to ensure that Siri can accurately run various applications to handle high-risk tasks. Errors in weather queries may be insignificant, but mistakes in financial transactions could have disastrous consequences. Reports indicate that Apple Inc.'s cautious approach reflects both the risks and potentials of creating a new voice interface for its ecosystem. If this move proves successful as expected, it may bring surprises to users.
