On the afternoon of September 29th, the Politburo of the Communist Party of China held the 22nd collective study session on the systematic promotion of sinicization of religion in our country. General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping emphasized during the study that it is necessary to summarize and apply historical experience, focus on the practical work of religion in our country, strengthen a systematic approach, enhance institutional norms, improve comprehensive governance, strengthen grassroots work, systematically promote the sinicization of religion in our country, and actively guide religion to adapt to socialist society. Comrade Zhang Xunmou, Director of the Religious Studies Center of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee, gave a lecture on this issue and presented work recommendations. Comrades of the Politburo listened attentively to the lecture and held discussions. After listening to the lecture and discussion, Xi Jinping made an important speech. He pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, our party has placed religious work in an important position in governing the country, clearly proposing a series of new concepts and measures such as adhering to the direction of sinicization of religion in our country, improving the institutional mechanisms of religious work, enhancing the level of legal governance of religious work, and promoting positive results in the new era of religious work. History and practice have proven that only by continuously promoting the sinicization of religion in our country can we promote harmony between religion and the government, harmony among ethnic groups, social harmony, and long-term stability in the country. Xi Jinping emphasized that China is a socialist country led by the Communist Party of China, and actively guiding religion to adapt to socialist society is an inevitable requirement. It is necessary to adhere to the core socialist values as a guide, lead religious figures and religious believers to firmly establish correct views of the state, history, nation, culture, and religion, constantly deepen the "five identifications," and consciously contribute to the construction of a Chinese-style modernization. Xi Jinping pointed out that only by taking root in the Chinese land and nurturing Chinese culture can all religions in our country inherit healthily. It is necessary to integrate our country's religious beliefs with excellent traditional Chinese culture, and guide religious figures and believers to enhance their sense of identity with Chinese culture. Xi Jinping emphasized that stimulating proactive actions and self-reform in the religious community is crucial to promoting the sinicization of religion in our country. It is necessary to support and guide the religious community to embody Chinese characteristics and adapt to the requirements of the times in terms of doctrines, regulations, management systems, rituals, customs, and behavioral norms, and to improve the level of self-education, self-management, and self-restraint. Xi Jinping pointed out that governing religious affairs according to law is the fundamental way to correctly handle various contradictions and issues in the religious field. It is necessary to improve relevant laws and policies, carry out legal propaganda and education, promote strict law enforcement, and effectively increase the level of legal governance in religious work. Xi Jinping emphasized that party committees at all levels should strengthen leadership in religious work, fully implement the party's religious work theory and guidelines for the new era, deepen strategic, fundamental, and practical research on problems, strengthen the construction of religious work teams, consolidate grassroots foundations, and further mobilize the collective efforts to promote the sinicization of religion in our country.
