A source stated that the violent incidents resulted in 5 deaths, but this number has not been confirmed by Madagascar officials. Madagascar is facing a severe energy crisis, with nationwide power and water outages. Many households and businesses experience power cuts of over 12 hours a day, leading to discontent among the local population. Since September 25th, thousands of protesters have been demonstrating in Antananarivo, demanding the government restore water and electricity supply nationwide.
