Kuwait's Minister of Electricity announced on Saturday that the country plans to add 14,050 megawatts of power generation capacity by 2031 to meet the growing demand for electricity and ensure power supply stability. As a major oil-producing country, Kuwait has been plagued by power shortages in recent years due to rapid population growth, urban expansion, soaring temperatures, and delays in maintenance of some power plants. Since last year, the government has been forced to implement planned power outages in some areas. Subaih Al-Mukhaizim, Kuwait's Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, stated on X platform that despite temperatures reaching 51 degrees Celsius on some days in the summer of 2025, the country still successfully ensured power supply during the summer. He pointed out that the peak electricity demand during the summer decreased by 0.17% compared to the previous year, which was expected to increase by 4%.
