Former Bank of Canada Governor Stephen Poloz said that Canada's reputation for being unable to complete major infrastructure projects is not unfounded. Current Prime Minister Mark Carney is trying to change this image by simplifying regulatory processes and promoting the development of new trade corridors. Poloz reflected on his experience at Export Development Canada in the late 2000s. In 2008, the company received a funding request to build a road and infrastructure to a major key mineral resource area in Ontario. However, debates around whether to build a road to the mineral-rich "Ring of Fire" area have still not been settled. "It is these types of issues that confirm our reputation for 'accomplishing nothing,'" Poloz said.
