Minister Yin Hejun of China's Ministry of Science and Technology led a Chinese delegation to attend the G20 Research and Innovation Ministerial Meeting in South Africa from September 22nd to 25th, 2025. The meeting adopted the "G20 Proposal on Scientific Engagement" and issued the "Chair's Statement of the G20 Research and Innovation Working Group". Minister Yin Hejun stated in his speech that promoting open, inclusive, and beneficial international scientific cooperation is an important path to promoting global sustainable development and reducing development imbalances. In recent years, the Chinese government has continuously optimized the environment for scientific and technological innovation, actively promoting bilateral and multilateral scientific and technological cooperation, building mutually beneficial partnerships. China has spearheaded initiatives such as the "International Science and Technology Cooperation Initiative" and the "Open Science International Cooperation Initiative", actively participating and leading the way in international mega science programs and projects, implementing the "Belt and Road" Science and Technology Innovation Action Plan, promoting the open sharing of research infrastructure and large-scale research equipment, continuously expanding civil science and technology cooperation and exchanges, and actively participating in global governance in areas such as artificial intelligence and research ethics. During the meeting, Minister Yin Hejun met with South African Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Blade Nzimande to exchange views on deepening bilateral and multilateral scientific and technological innovation cooperation. The two sides signed a "Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Supporting the Implementation of International Mega Science Programs between the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Republic of South Africa". Minister Yin Hejun also held bilateral meetings with the Chief Science Advisor of Canada, the Minister of Federal Research, Technology, and Aerospace of Germany, the Minister of Education and Research of Norway, and the State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation of Switzerland. On September 25th, China, South Africa, Brazil, and the African Union jointly held a high-level meeting on open science international cooperation.
