Ministry of National Defense: China has always adhered to the strategy of nuclear self-defense and does not participate in any form of arms race.
On the afternoon of September 25th, the Ministry of National Defense held a regular press conference, and Colonel Zhang Xiaogang, the spokesperson of the Ministry of National Defense, answered questions from reporters.
Reporter: During the military parade, China displayed the Dongfeng-61, Dongfeng-5C, Dongfeng-31BJ land-based intercontinental missiles, the "Juwang" submarine-launched intercontinental missiles, and the "Jinglei" air-launched long-range missiles. This is the first time that China has exhibited its "nuclear triad" strategic nuclear force. Can you tell us if China's nuclear policy is going to change?
Zhang Xiaogang: China's nuclear policy is highly stable, continuous, and predictable. China has always adhered to a nuclear strategy of self-defense, pledged not to be the first to use nuclear weapons, committed not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear-weapon states and nuclear-weapon-free zones, always maintaining its nuclear force at the lowest level required by national security needs, and not participating in any form of arms race. China's nuclear weapons are solely for defense and self-defense, to safeguard national strategic security, and maintain world peace and stability.
