Hong Kong expands exemptions for aircraft passengers from paying departure taxes.
The Director of the Transport and Logistics Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Ms. Chan Mei Po, announced today that in order to further consolidate Hong Kong International Airport's leading position as an international aviation hub, the SAR Government will expand the scope of exemption from paying the aircraft passenger departure tax starting from October 1, 2025. This is to attract more passengers to choose Hong Kong as a transit point and extend their stay, injecting new momentum into the local economy. It is understood that the exemption will be extended to include the following passengers: those who arrive in Hong Kong by plane and then depart by plane within the next day; those who arrive in Hong Kong by land or water and then depart by plane on the same day or the next day. Eligible passengers who have already paid the aircraft passenger departure tax when purchasing their tickets can apply for a refund through the new aircraft passenger departure tax refund platform within 28 days from the day of departure. The process is simple.
