On September 25th, at the opening ceremony of the China Securities and Futures Arbitration Center, Cheng Hehong, the chief lawyer of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, stated in his speech that currently, Shenzhen and Shanghai have successively implemented pilot projects in the securities and futures industry arbitration. Since the pilot projects started, the four pilot arbitration institutions in Shanghai and Shenzhen have handled over 2600 securities and futures cases, involving disputes amounting to over 100 billion yuan, accumulating valuable experience for the pilot projects in the securities and futures industry arbitration. Cheng Hehong pointed out that arbitration is an important part of the multi-faceted dispute resolution mechanism, a crucial legal means to protect the rights of investors, and an internationally recognized mechanism for resolving commercial disputes, with strong expertise, flexible procedures, high efficiency, and enforceable judgments in accordance with the law, playing an important role in serving the high-quality development of the economy and high-level opening-up. In 2021, the Central Committee and the State Council issued the "Opinions on Strictly Cracking Down on Illegal Activities in the Securities Industry," proposing the "implementation of a pilot system for the securities industry arbitration." In the same year in October, the China Securities Regulatory Commission and the Ministry of Justice jointly issued the "Opinions on Lawfully Carrying Out Pilot Projects in the Securities and Futures Industry Arbitration," proposing to "support and promote the pilot projects in securities and futures industry arbitration in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, where securities and futures businesses are active."
