Canadian Health Department: No evidence that pregnant women taking Tylenol would cause autism in their fetus.
The Canadian Department of Health stated that there is no definitive evidence to show that taking the pain reliever Tylenol as directed during pregnancy can cause the fetus to develop autism or other neurological disorders. Tylenol, also known as acetaminophen, is a commonly used pain reliever and fever reducer. The Canadian Department of Health pointed out that millions of Canadians have safely used acetaminophen for decades, including during pregnancy and breastfeeding. They also mentioned that if pregnant women have a fever and pain that goes untreated, it could pose risks to the fetus, but acetaminophen should be used at the lowest effective dose and for the shortest duration possible.
