The 57th ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting reaffirmed its firm commitment to uphold the multilateral trading system.
On September 23, local time, the 57th ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting issued a statement on the evening of the 24th, stating that despite the uncertainty in the global trade environment, the ASEAN economy is projected to achieve a growth of 4.8% in 2024 and 4.2% in 2025, higher than the global average.
The meeting reiterated that ASEAN will steadfastly uphold the rule-based multilateral trading system in the context of the continuous uncertainty in the global trade environment, and promote the comprehensive implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. The participants also reviewed progress in ASEAN trade facilitation, investment, digital economy, and sustainable development, emphasizing the need to strengthen regional supply chain resilience through cooperation and to work towards achieving the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
