On September 24th local time, Premier Li Keqiang met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in New York. Li Keqiang said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the European Union. In July, President Xi Jinping met with President von der Leyen and President Costa in Beijing, reaching important consensus on further developing China-EU relations and providing strategic guidance. I co-chaired the 25th China-EU Leaders' Meeting with the two presidents, achieving positive outcomes. China is willing to implement the consensus reached with the EU, uphold the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations, strengthen unity and cooperation, and promote the healthy and stable development of China-EU relations. Li Keqiang pointed out that over the past 50 years, China-EU relations have experienced the test of international changes, and overall have maintained healthy and stable development. A very important reason is that both sides have always maintained good communication and exchanges, actively seeking ways to resolve conflicts and differences based on mutual understanding and trust. He hopes that the EU will take practical actions with China to enhance mutual trust, treat each other with sincerity, respect commitments, persist in seeking common ground while shelving differences, focus on the bigger picture, find points of shared interests, and promote the continuous deepening and development of China-EU cooperation for the benefit of both peoples. He hopes that the EU will fulfill its commitment to open markets for trade and investment, adhere to fair competition and WTO rules, avoid politicizing economic and trade issues, and securitizing them. In the face of new complex changes in the international situation, with increasing uncertainties and instabilities, China and the EU, as two important poles in the world, should show their responsibilities, adhere to strategic autonomy, uphold fairness and justice, play a more constructive role in global affairs, better safeguard the common interests of China, the EU, and the international community, and become a force for stability and certainty in the world. Ursula von der Leyen stated that as the two major economies in the world, enhancing dialogue, increasing understanding, and deepening mutual trust between Europe and China are of great significance for both sides and global development. The EU is willing to actively implement the consensus reached at this year's China-EU Leaders' Meeting with China, resolve differences through dialogue and consultation, and achieve new cooperation results in trade and investment, environmental protection, and development aid. The EU highly appreciates the exemplary role played by China in responding to climate change, and is willing to deepen cooperation with China in the field of climate change to promote green transitions and sustainable development globally.
