Evercore said that if the US government shutdown continues until October 3rd, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics may delay the release of the September non-farm payroll report. "This is consistent with past practice by the Labor Department when affected by a government shutdown," wrote Sarah Bianchi and Matthew Aks in a client report released on Tuesday; they believe there is a 65% probability of a government shutdown. The report points out that in 2013, the Bureau of Labor Statistics suspended data collection, analysis, and publication work, retaining only three employees to keep operations running. After the shutdown ended, the Bureau released a new schedule for economic data publication, with the first data released five days after the shutdown ended.
