Freeport McMoRan reported on September 8th that a mud surge accident caused two deaths.
According to reports, the Freeport-McMoRan company stated that two employees tragically died in a mud rush accident at the Grasberg Block Cave mine in Indonesia on September 8th, and they are currently still working to rescue five missing persons. The accident resulted in approximately 800,000 tons of wet ore rushing into multiple work levels underground, leading to operations in the mine area being suspended since that day. The company expects to complete the investigation of the accident by the end of 2025, and has lowered its copper sales estimate for the third quarter by 4% and gold sales estimate by 6%.
