The High-level Meeting to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations was held at the UN Headquarters on the 22nd. Participants emphasized the need to reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism and the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, work together and strengthen the role of the United Nations. UN Secretary-General Antnio Guterres pointed out that the purposes and principles of the UN Charter are facing unprecedented attacks, with war, hunger, and climate change all posing serious challenges to the global governance system. He stressed, "To address these challenges, we must not only defend the status of the UN, but also strengthen its role." Guterres called on UN Member States to take collective action and promote the implementation of key agendas such as the "Future Contract" and the "UN 80th Anniversary Reform Initiative." "The only way forward is to work together. Let us face this moment with clarity, courage, and steadfast belief, and fulfill our commitment to peace."
