UK Reform Party leader Farage promised to tighten UK residency rules.
Leader of the UK Reform Party, Farage, stated that if the party wins the next general election, they will increase the difficulty for foreign nationals to immigrate to the UK and adjust the immigration system to favor those with higher incomes and a higher level of English proficiency in order to reduce overall immigration numbers. According to Farage's disclosed plan, the UK Reform Party will replace the current indefinite leave to remain system with a five-year renewable work visa. Holders of this visa will not be able to access welfare benefits and cannot bring family members to reside in the UK with them. The party also plans to revoke already approved ILR. Farage is expected to hold a press conference later on Monday. The UK Reform Party only has 5 members among the 650 seats in the UK Parliament, but they are leading in polls with 28% of respondents stating they would vote for the party, which is 8 percentage points higher than the ruling Labour Party. The next general election is expected to be held in 2029.
