According to reports citing informed sources, in August the United States informed European diplomatic representatives of its intention to cut security assistance to Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. The report stated, "At the end of August, Pentagon officials met with a group of European diplomats and delivered a tough message, that the United States plans to stop providing some security assistance to the NATO member countries bordering Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia." Sources said Pentagon officials told them that Europe needs to reduce its reliance on the United States. The report noted that during President Trump's administration, the U.S. military will shift its focus to other priorities, particularly defense.
