With the establishment of the "International Primate Macroconnectome Atlas Alliance," systematic cooperation on primate brain mapping research is officially launched globally. At the 2025 International Workshop on Macroconnectome held at the Pujiang Innovation Forum on September 20, the "International Primate Macroconnectome Atlas Alliance" was established in Shanghai and held a signing ceremony for alliance members. Academician Pu Muming, the academic director of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Brain Science and Intelligent Technology Excellence Innovation Center, released the "White Paper of the International Primate Macroconnectome Atlas Alliance." The white paper systematically lays out the core tasks of the Brain Atlas Grand Science Plan for the next ten years. The overall goal is to build a global, open collaborative research network, coordinate international efforts in technology development and brain mapping research, unify technical standards and data specifications, promote global sharing of mapping technology, key facilities, and analysis techniques. The white paper hopes to ultimately achieve three major milestones in the field of human and non-human primate brain mapping research: firstly, to draw the first comprehensive primate whole-brain macro-connectome with cell-type specificity, revealing the neural network architecture principles that support cognitive functions; secondly, by integrating single-cell and spatial transcriptome, proteome, epigenome data, establishing a primate brain cell map at single-cell resolution, multi-omics, revealing the systematic characterization of cell diversity in physiological and pathological states throughout the life cycle; thirdly, to draw a detailed three-dimensional synaptic structure map, identify synaptic features markers related to cognitive and other brain functions, and reveal synaptic ultrastructure related to aging and brain diseases.
