Hong Kong discovered an unexploded wartime bomb and approximately 6000 people were evacuated.
On the 19th at noon, a suspicious object approximately 1.4 meters long, resembling a wartime bomb, was discovered on the coastal street of Hoi Chak Wan in North Point, Hong Kong. The Hong Kong police explosive disposal unit and firefighters arrived at the scene to handle the situation. At 7:30 pm on the 19th, the Hong Kong police, fire department, and Civil Affairs Bureau held a press conference. Commander Chen Tianzhu of the Eastern District Police Command stated that 18 commercial and residential buildings, involving approximately 1900 households and 6000 people, need to be evacuated. It is expected that the disposal of the explosive device will begin at 2 am the next day. The Hong Kong police explosive disposal unit stated that they prioritize the safety of the citizens and strive to eliminate the risk before the daytime of the 20th. Experts pointed out that the object is a US standard airdropped bomb left over from World War II, weighing approximately 453 kilograms and containing about 227 kilograms of high-performance TNT explosive inside. The bomb casing is intact, not yet detonated, and equipped with a front fuse and tail fuse, still possessing complete explosive power. The Hong Kong police stated that they will not detonate it on-site and will proceed with its destruction.
